More New York Gold And Great Ratings

New York wines shined at the in the Sunshine State this weekend, with Liberty Vineyards & Winery 2016 Dry Riesling winning Best of Show White Wine, along with Double Gold medals for their 2015 Riesling, and Fredonia.

Other Double Gold medals went to Earle Estates Meadery Strawberry Shadows; Keuka Spring 2015 Millers Cove Red; Lakewood 2015 Full Monty Riesling, and 2015 Sparkling Catawba; and Swedish Hill 2015 Pinot Grigio.

Gold medals went to Lakewood 2016 Abby Rose; Lamoreaux Landing 2015 Gewurztraminer, and 2015 Red Oak Vineyard Riesling; Liberty White Side of the Moon; Swedish Hill 2015 Riesling, and Blanc de Blanc; Torrey Ridge Emmy Lou; and WortHog Cidery Hard Cider.

New York wines also won 28 Silver and 22 Bronze medals at the awesome 2017 Florida State Fair International Wine Competition in Tampa. Thanks to BJ and Bob Paulish, Jeanne Burgess, Mary Stutt, and the many volunteers who make this such a great competition every year.

Elsewhere, the new Wine Enthusiast found lots to like from across New York State, especially among red wines of different types from different region.

Paumanok, on Long Island's North Fork, did especially well, with its 2010 Tuthill's Lane Vineyard Merlot (94 points), 2013 Grand Vintage Merlot (93), 2014 Assemblage (93), 2013 Assemblage (93), 2013 Merlot (91), and 2014 Cabernet Franc (90).

Other red stars included Damiani 2013 Barrel Select Cabernet Franc (Finger Lakes, 91), Keuka Spring 2015 Merlot (Finger Lakes, 91), Harbes Family Vineard 2014 Cabernet Franc (North Fork of Long Island, 91), Anthony Nappa 2013 Tocca Ferro Reserve (91), Hudson-Chatham 2014 Middlehope Casscles Vineyards Baco Noir (Hudson River Region, 91); and Red Newt 2012 Glacier Ridge Vineyards Cabernet Franc (90).

The sole white wine in this edition to reach 90 was the Standing Stone 2015 Gewurztraminer.

Finally, at the Winemakers Challenge, Black Willow won a Platinum award for its Diamond, along with Golds for Trilogy Red, Black Berry, and Odin's Nectar (Mead).
