The mission of the New York Wine & Grape Foundation (NYWGF) is to promote the world-class image of New York grapes and wines from our diverse regions to responsibly benefit farmers, producers and consumers through innovative marketing, research, communication, and advocacy.

SUMMARY OF THE POSITION: The Communications Manager will help guide the strategy for all communications, website, and public relations messages and collateral to consistently articulate the NYWGF mission. The Communications Manager will ensure that the NYWGF is viewed as the primary source, disseminator, and conduit of information for our member network and beyond. Reporting to the Director of Member Relations & Development, the Communications Manager will work closely with the senior leadership team as the communications partner on a variety of strategic initiatives.


  1. Develop, implement, and evaluate the annual communications plan across the network's discreet audiences in collaboration with leadership team and constituents
  2. Lead the generation of online content that engages audience segments and leads to measurable action. Decide who, where, and when to disseminate
  3. Put communications vehicles in place to create momentum and awareness as well as to test the effectiveness of communications activities
  4. Manage the development, distribution, and maintenance of all print and electronic collateral including, but not limited to, newsletters, brochures, photo file, and website
  5. Coordinate webpage maintenance—ensure that new and consistent information (article links, stories, and events) is posted regularly
  6. Track and measure the level of engagement within the network over time
  7. Assist Executive Director and Director of Member Relations and Development in responding to inquiries for industry information from consumer, media, trade and policy makers
  8. Monitor press coverage and craft effective press releases as needed
  9. Process and report the results for the New York Wine Classic wine competition and other domestic/international wine competitions
  10. Maintain online member database system using MemberClicks software
  11. Serve as a representative for the Foundation at domestic and international trade shows
  12. Support basic administrative functions of office


  • Excellent writing/editing and verbal communication skills
  • A strong track record as an implementer who thrives on managing a variety of key initiatives concurrently
  • High energy, maturity, and leadership with the ability to serve as a unifying force and to position communications discussions at both the strategic and tactical levels
  • Sincere commitment to work collaboratively with all constituent groups, including staff, board members, volunteers, donors, program participants, and other supporters
  • Self-starter, able to work independently, and entrepreneurial; enjoys creating and implementing new initiatives
  • Proficiency in Squarespace and Wordpress website software
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of the New York wine industry
  • Basic photography and video skills
  • Familiarity with basic design software including Adobe Creative Suite
  • Familiarity with analytics used to measure website, e-newsletter, and social media engagement performance
  • Knowledge of best practices for search engine optimization
