The New York Wine Classic Announces Judges for 2018 Competition

CANANDAIGUA, NY – June 15, 2018 – The 33rd Annual New York Wine Classic, to be held from August 6th – 8th,2018 in Watkins Glen, NY has announced the judges for the annual “Oscars” of New York Wines. The New York Wine Classic will be hosted by the New York Wine & Grape Foundation and is being sponsored by Gray Locey, CPA, P.C. and The Arrigo Agency, Farm Family Insurance.
“We are proud of the esteemed group of judges we’ve assembled for the New York Wine Classic this year,” said Sam Filler, New York Wine & Grape Foundation Executive Director. “Each year shines a brighter spotlight on the quality of New York wines as we continue to make a name for ourselves. Judges at this year’s contest have a breadth and depth of experience in wine competitions both domestic and internationally. We expect the 2018 competition to be fierce and the winners to represent the best of what New York has to offer.”

The Governor’s Cup, a large silver chalice, recognizes the “Best of Show” or top prize of all entries in the Classic. The “Winery of the Year” award is presented to the winery with the best overall showing based on the level and number of awards in relation to entries. The honors are awarded based on blind tastings by expert judges from across the US. Judging panels determine the initial medals, with top-scoring wines then being evaluated by all judges for “Best of” Category and “Governor's Cup” awards.

The festivities will begin on Monday evening, August 6th, 2018 with a Judges Welcome Dinner sponsored by Gray Locey CPA, PC. The competition will commence on Tuesday, August 7th with a full day of judging followed by the “Sweepstakes Round” on the morning of August 8th. A celebratory lunch created by Executive Chef, Chris Hascall, and sponsored by The Arrigo Agency, will follow the final round of judging.


Entry information including updated classes, competition rules, wine shipping information and deadlines can be found online at www.newyorkwines.org. Entry fees for the 2018 event will be $60 per submission for New York Wine & Grape Foundation members and $75 per submission for non-members. Fees for Limited Production wines, Ciders and Concord Grape Brandy will be $40 for members/$50 for non-members per submission.
