Export Marketing Assistance Service (EMAS)

Administered by Empire State Development’s Global NY, the Export Marketing Assistance Service (EMAS) is a no cost, New York State program designed to help small and medium sized businesses find sales agents or distributors abroad. Through the program Global NY connects businesses with its global network of trade representatives, who then provide local expertise for selected markets, conduct customized research and identify potential partners for your company. Global NY currently services seven markets: Canada, China, Europe, Israel, Mexico, South Africa and South America.

ELIGILITY

To be considered eligible for the EMAS program you must:

  • Be a New York State small or medium sized company (under 500 employees)
  • In existence for at least one year
  • Intend to begin exporting or expand export sales in foreign markets
  • Certify that 51% of the value of finished product or service originates in New York, the calculation of which includes the value of the raw materials and component parts, manufacturing process, advertising and promotion, distribution, warehousing, designs and other intellectual property

HOW TO APPLY

The EMAS application must be completed electronically, signed and emailed to globalny@esd.ny.gov. Upon receipt of the application, a Global NY representative will respond to the company within 10 business days regarding approval or denial. A SUCCESS STORY

“As a direct result of the last two years of support by Global NY, Oxair has a new distributor in South Africa with the potential to be a supplier of oxygen generating plants for 54 major hospitals under construction in Botswana, Zambia and Tanzania over the next 3 years. Inroads have also been made in the Chinese market by adding two distributors as well as capturing a significant sales contract in nearby Vietnam. We expect that as a result of these efforts, thanks to the support of Global NY, that our sales volume should reach $2 million in 2020.”
