Anthony Road Rocks! and more accolades (WP 10/8/16)

Anthony Road Winery 2014 Dry Riesling scored a major coup this week when it was named Best White Wine (and Best Riesling) at the prestigious Six Nations Wine Challenge held in Sydney, Australia. This is huge!

There are only three top "Best of Show" trophies (Sparkling, White, and Red) chosen from among 600 wines by an expert international judging panel comparing the very best wines from six countries: Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Chile, Canada, and the United States. A judge from each country can pick up to 100 wines representing the best in 15 different classes; in the case of the U.S., it was former San Francisco Chronicle wine writer Jon Bonne.

This award is a tribute to Martini Vineyards manager Peter Martini and winemaker Peter Becraft, and the entire Martini family of Anthony Road. John in particular is one of the most committed people in the American wine industry, involved in so many organizations I lose count, and making major contributions to them all. He and his wife Ann are the type of people who make our industry work--and so great. The product is a pleasure, but the people are the treasure.

Anthony Road's huge win was joined by Keuka Spring 2014 Gewurztraminer which won Double Gold and Best of Class for "Aromatic Wines Not Riesling"; and Boundary Breaks 2014 Dry #239 Riesling which won a Gold medal.
